Welcome to the myYC project website!

This site is designed to provide you with information about the upcoming myYC portal which will serve as the information gateway for students, faculty, and staff. Please take a moment to browse through this site - if you have questions or would like to become involved, please contact us.

What's a Portal?

A portal is an interactive website that displays information customized by or for you. Examples of better-known portal websites include iGoogle, My MSN, and My Yahoo!.

Many news sites such as BBC are introducing portal-like customization so that you control what's important to you. One major benefit of a portal is to display different types of information to different groups, helping to ensure you don't get overwhelmed with information that is irrelevant to you.

Why Do We Need a Portal?

We are making some significant changes to how we do business - both internally (within the College) and with our customers (Students, Vendors, etc.).

Specifically, we're implementing a new, complex software product referred to as an ERP. With the introduction of the new Banner ERP system (replacing AMIS, ESS, and Administrative Access), implementing the portal provides for a number of benefits and improves the usability of the new student information system. The portal will also cut down on the "noise" that many of you notice in your email and on our website by ensuring that the information presented to you is both timely and relevant.

So What Is myYC?

myYC is the name for Yavapai College's new portal system powered by SunGard's Luminis portal software. The name was the most popular submission out of several provided to us by the visitors to Yavapai's web site. Thanks to the generous efforts of our Design Services team, myYC also has a logo (see above).

Before You Read Further...

As you read through this project information website, you'll see many terms which may not be immediately familiar to you. Let's take a moment to try and explain a few you'll see:

Portal - Consider this like a television set.

Channel - Channels in the portal contain a specific type of information, much like on television (for example, the History Channel, the SciFi Channel, the Cartoon Network, etc.)

Role - Roles are different types of people or audiences. Roles in the portal are kind of like your family members when it comes to watching TV - Parents may watch different channels than kids, women might watch different channels from men, etc.

Tab - A tab contains a set of channels. Kind of like that fancy thing on DirecTV where you can see a few different channels at the same time.

Dashboard - Not unlike the dashboard in your car, a dashboard in the portal provides you with a quick visual representation of important information.

Your Thoughts

"Bringing faculty information together in one location so that everyone is on the same page is what I've been waiting for. I'm really excited about this new opportunity for faculty communication." - Dave Gorman, Faculty Senate President, Science & Math Division

"After learning what the portal will bring to the college, it sounds exciting and I definitely look to participate in this. It will have something for everyone." - Vickey Lamotte, Director of Del E. Web Family Enrichment Center
